1. The agreement
These terms govern your use of the Griot platform — Griot Cloud, Ask Griot, and the Griot Marketplace — operated by Griot Data Technologies (“Griot”, “we”), a company registered in Kenya. By creating an account or using the platform you agree to them. If you are accepting on behalf of an organisation, you confirm you have the authority to bind it.
2. The service
Griot is a data and AI platform: you can connect and organise data, publish it under contracts, query it, ask questions of it in plain language, and — through the marketplace — subscribe to datasets other organisations publish. Public marketplace pages can be browsed without an account; everything else requires one.
3. Your account
You are responsible for what happens under your account and for keeping your sign-in method secure. Tell us immediately at hello@griotdata.com if you believe your account has been compromised. You must provide accurate information at signup and keep it current.
4. Plans, credits, and payment
Plans. Current plans and prices are published at /pricing. Kadogo is free. Paid plans renew monthly until cancelled.
Credits. Platform usage is measured in credits; one credit is one cent of platform usage. Plan credits refresh each billing month and do not roll over. Purchased top-up credits do not expire while your account is open.
Spend protection. On Kadogo and Solo, when your credits are exhausted, metered work pauses until you top up or your month renews — usage can never bill you beyond what you have chosen to pay.
Payment. Payments are processed by our payment processor, Paystack. Prices are in US dollars unless stated otherwise; taxes required by law are added where applicable.
Price changes. We may change prices with at least 30 days' notice to account holders; changes take effect at your next renewal, never mid-period.
5. Cancellation and termination
You can cancel any time from your plan page. Your plan runs to the end of the period you paid for and does not renew; we do not prorate partial months. After closure we make your data available for export for 30 days, then delete it from live systems per our retention policy.
We may suspend or terminate accounts that breach these terms, that create risk for the platform or other users, or that the law requires us to act against. Where reasonable we will warn you first.
6. Data contracts govern data
Every dataset on the platform operates under a data contract that states its schema, permitted purposes, quality standards, and privacy rules. The platform enforces contracts on every access. Using data in breach of its contract is a breach of these terms. Marketplace subscriptions are to a specific contract version; new versions take effect for you only when you opt in.
7. Acceptable use
Do not: attempt to re-identify individuals in masked data; resell or share dataset access outside your subscription's terms; probe, bypass, or defeat the platform's enforcement, masking, or metering; use the platform to process data you have no right to process; misrepresent who you are or what you intend to do with data; or use the service to break the law. We may suspend access that does any of these.
8. If you publish data (producers)
You warrant that you have the right to publish what you list, that your listing and samples are accurate, and that personal data in your datasets is masked per your declared rules before it leaves your environment. Prices shown on a listing are set by you, and you receive proceeds per the producer agreement. We may suspend listings that break these warranties, and the contract record of past access survives withdrawal.
9. Your data, our platform
Your data is yours. You grant us only the licence needed to run the platform on it — store it, process it, and serve it back to you and to those your contracts allow. The platform, its software, and its brand are ours. Feedback you give us we may use without obligation.
10. Service changes and availability
We improve the platform continuously and may change or retire features. If we retire something material to paying customers, we will give reasonable notice. We aim for high availability but do not promise the service will be uninterrupted or error-free.
11. Disclaimers
The platform is provided “as is”. Answers produced by AI features are generated from your data and shown with their sources precisely so you can verify them — they are decision support, not professional advice, and you remain responsible for decisions you take on them. Marketplace datasets are published by their producers; Griot verifies listings against their contracts but does not author the underlying data.
12. Liability
To the extent the law allows, Griot's total liability arising from the platform is limited to the fees you paid us in the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim, and neither party is liable for indirect or consequential losses. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded under Kenyan law.
13. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Kenya, and the courts of Kenya have exclusive jurisdiction.
14. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. We will post changes here with a new effective date and notify account holders by email of material changes at least 30 days before they take effect. Continued use after that is acceptance.
